4, received Judgments over an alleged case of insecurity



Not fewer than four concerned bodies have received judgments today, over an alleged case with suit no RGP/SJC/18/001 from the Student Judicial Council, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo.

The case titled “Statement of calling to Reinstate Paramilitary on Campus” was filed by a member of the Student Judicial Council, Bar. Macaulay David against the Office of the Student Union President, Welfare Director, Chairman Welfare Committee, Chairman Security Committee and the Senate President of the RUGIPO Student Representative Council.

Haven listen to various argument of the Plaintiff and the concerned defendants over the challenges of insecurity facing Nigerian Students in their various hostels, the Chief Judge of RUGIPO Student Judicial Council, Honourable Justice Kayode Opeyemi Julius made a verdict acquitting and discharge the Chairman Security Committee for selfless service offered to Nigerian students over security matters and order the plaintiff to write an apology letter to the office of the Chairman Security Committee.

Justice Kayode ordered the Chairman Security Committee to continue his duties and provide the law court with a report regarding insecurity on campus within seven days.

Justice Kayode made his verdict ordering the office of the Welfare Director to work selflessly with the office of the Chairman Security Committee on issues relating to insecurity and way forward to reinstate the paramilitary on campus presenting a written report to the law court within seven days.

However the Senate President of the RUGIPO SRC was ordered to work with the student union president on the issue and file a report to the law court within a period of seven days.

The SU president and other concerned defendants were given seven days ultimatum to provide the law court with a documented report made so far on reinstating of paramilitary on campus.

It could be recalled that the court proceedings had earlier been presided on Friday 2nd, November 2018 which was adjourned to Friday 9th, November 2018.
